About the project
About
Aleo Setup Ceremony was a global multi-party computation (MPC) event to secure Aleo’s proof system. Power users could contribute via CLI (Universal & Outer Setup), while the Inner Setup was built for non-technical users through a web interface.
Problem
Non-technical users needed a way to participate in the Inner Setup without the usual CLI complexity—so the flow had to be guided, safe-feeling, and hard to mess up.
Key decisions and why
Used surveys (10 questions) to map needs + confusion points so the flow targets real friction, not designer guesses.
A/B tested login options (Aleo account vs anonymous vs GitHub/Twitter) with ~25 users to pick a path that balances trust, simplicity, and completion rate.
Ran usability tests on a staging link (~25 users) and iterated into a step-by-step guided flow with clear hints per action to reduce drop-off and errors.
Outcome
A guided web experience that helped drive 2,000+ participants, exceeding the previous widely cited record (Tornado Cash) for ceremony contributions.
My ownership
Product design across discovery → ideation → design → testing → handoff, focusing on the Inner Setup UX (login decision, guided flow, and clarity of each step).
